Accolades for Terraformer
This album is a keeper, a hypnotic and psychedelic creation with a dark and unique personality all its own. Whereas Challenger (their last full length) contained doom and drone influences, Terraformer runs with them, and now they're awash in a sea of industrial electronics and samples that makes the connection to Neurosis, Godflesh, and Isis that much more apparent. This is some heavy, heady stuff. Heavy in the deep and disturbing sense, a feeling like being regarded by a being whose intelligence far outstrips your own. The album winds through several peaks and valleys naturally, from pounding drone to sped-up instrumentals and back and forth again, before settling into the slow, unwinding drone that characterizes the last third of the album. The entire album plays better as one long track than anything else.
If you drop your expectations of what Knut "should" sound like and just accept it with open ears, it's a devestating listen. I've seen it said on here, StonerRock.com, many times and it applies wholeheartedly to this album - fucking DOOM.
