Accolades for
...and Then Take You to a Place Where Jars are Kept

With their 2003 release, Thulsa Doom manages to serve up a solid chunk of rock. Lots of frantic, garagey riffing and lots of popish hooks. If you want skull crushingly heavy, go somewhere else. This is drunken-fun-in-a-bar rock.

It's a bit of a surprise at first. That super-thick, sludgy fuzz rock guitar sound has been stripped down to a more garage rock feel. The album is a lot groovier than their past efforts, showing more of a swagger in Papa Doom's vocals and the looseness of playing. In addition, they are definitely taking more chances on this one. It's almost as if the spirit of El Doom's Caliban Sessions album has been carried over into the Thulsa Doom Sound. Whether it's a driving, hi-speed song like the opener or a more down-tempo tune such as "Papa Doom Preach (Where Jars are Kept)," these guys always try to knock you down with an emotional punch. Also, they definitely have not lost their odd sense of humor. Not that we needed further proof as to how incredible of a band Thulsa Doom is, but this CD delivers the goods. It's a bit more laid back this time around, but nonetheless still hi-quality.
