Half Man
vs. Mothercake Vol 1
(Split/Vinyl/EP)
These are 4 seriously heavy tracks by two very excellent bands! The two Half
Man tracks 'Red Herring' and 'Acid Park' are much much heavier than the stuff
on 'The Complete Field Guide for Cynics'.. I like the direction they're going
with this, I like it a lot 'Field Guide' had a lot of 'bluesy' stuff on it
and even though I liked it, I think I like them even better with out it! I hope
they continue in this more 'stonerish' vein with their future stuff..
And Mothercake, WOW!!! This is the first that I've ever heard of this band and
I am completely enthralled! Their two tracks 'Fists of Fury' and 'Baglady' continue
on down the same heavy psychedelic rock path and are very complimentary to the
Half Man tracks. This is their first release unfortunately, otherwise I would
be driving to the record store to pick up some more of their stuff right now!
There is a very prominent psychedelic, Monster Magnet- esque, sound to all 4
of these tracks and they all kick some serious rock n' roll ass! The recording
is of a high quality and I can't find a bad thing to say about anything on here!
If I had to fault it I would say that maybe the vocals could have been recorded
a little louder for Mothercake because they're really farkin' good and a little
hard to hear..
It says on the press release that Half Man vs. Mothercake Vol 1 is a 'very limited
edition vinyl product'.. Every self respecting 'Stoner Rock' fan should grab
a copy if they can get their hands on one! I am eagerly awaiting future releases
from both of these bands and I hope they've got a Vol 2 planned!
You can reach both the Half Man and Mothercake websites from the Quick Jump
Menus under our logo above.. They've just officially released Vol 1 on December
18th so you probably still have a good chance of snagging your very own copy
if you hurry!
