Accolades for Self Titled
Damn me to hell if Schoolshooter didn`t instantly get under my skin with their post Am-Rep tendencies and great gritty but melodic vocals. Schoolshooter definitely are paving their own sounds of sorts. It`s at times very simple melodic guitar lines, back and forth from power chords to single note explosional angular riffs to full on noisy chaotic goodness. Vocals are the biggest surprise on the CD with as many as three vocal parts all playing off of each other. Also the two guitars can be really quite impressive with their orchestrated movements of sorts, and a rock solid drummer behind them. Most of the music reminds me of something like a cross between Karp, Don Cabellero and going as hardcore at times to remind me of Today is the Day. Get this one if you are into stuff that is a bit more unique and experimental than your average stoner rock band. Good original score and I will make a serious effort to keep my eyes on these cats...rock!
I'm really digging this one. Schoolshooter play a really good mix that is thick and heavy and draws from a wide range of influences. Their sound is rooted in the classic rock and blues stuff like Sabbath and Skynyrd but has a sludgy, noisy vibe to it that reminds me a little bit of Unsane and even Cavity to an extent. The sound is dissonant yet groovy, with a lot of classic riffs being employed with a lot of noisy stuff similar to the old Amp-rep roster. The vocals are really cool, they range from melodic and slightly shouted to full on hardcore tendencies that fit the sound perfectly. The rhythm section is solid and the whole sound comes together nicely. Not much else to say about this one. If you like your rock riff driven and full of soul, with a harsh and noisy vibe overall, you would do well to check out Schoolshooter. I definitely recommend this one and am already looking forward to checking out their next release. Well done!
