With this record Corrosion of Conformity, one of the most influential and caustic punk bands of the mid-'80s, make a dramatic shift toward groovy, southern-fried rock la Lynyrd Skynyrd, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and ZZ Top.

Pepper's soulful, deeper voice is what makes Deliverance such an awesome listen. Throw in an old school southern rock sound and some great songwriting and you have a monolithic record. Deliverance flat out fucking rules. The Allman Bros. influence rears its head a lot, but Sabbath is still the predominant force. If Down, Fu Manchu, Crowbar, or Kyuss appeals to you then Deliverance belongs on your shelves alongside Welcome to Sky Valley and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.

Deliverance was the first CD I ever bought and it's still one of my absolute favorites. Scared the shit out of me at first. COC has a sound and a style to them that I don't hear anywhere else.
