Rob: First off, who is in the band and how did it come together?
Torben: Well, were a fourpiece partially from Denmark and from Norway - Frode Bjerkely our drummer is norwegian and the rest of us Klaus: guitars, Torben Ravn: Bass guitars and myself; vocals and guitars are form Denmark.. Live - and on some of the tracks on our debut album The Last Sun - one of our friends Magnus is jammin out on his harmonica - hes not officially part of the band but hes allways around for the fun stuff.
We started out playin together in the summer of 1999, me and Klaus had been playin in various other metal/ rock bands and decided to create some music in the styles that we love so much: cruisin leaned back heavy grooves. We jammed up some tunes and after a couple of month we contacted Frode, he came down, played some tunes with us, got a few brews and we all loved it. In april 2000 we then went to the studio and recorded our selftitled demo - we still had no bass player so one of our friends joined temporarily for the basslines.
Finally in the summer of 2000 as we played a gig with Nebula and Roadsaw our bassplayer Torben Ravn joined, he saw the gig and was emediately hooked - him and Frode knew eacother from previous acts thats abouth it, after that we just wrote a shit load of tunes, and in the summer of 2001 we recorded our first full-length and around new year teamed up with DareDevil Records for the release - out march this year.
Rob: How was your gig last month with Bottom and Beaver?
Frode: Great Bottom no Beaver - unfortunately beaver didnt show but the Bottom girls where super cool - and their merchandise-chick uuhh man she was nice.
Klaus: Instead of Beaver some dudes from Austria called CanItrashcan had joined Bottom for some shows, they were nice dudes - I think actually that they split after those showsR.I.P
Rob: What are some of the other stoner rock bands that you guys are into?
Torben: Well this scene is getting huge in the sheer number of bands and there are a lot of cool ones out there. Bands like Sheavy, Lowrider, GasGiant, Dozer, PawnShop - in general I think that most of the Scandinavian scene has really high quality and of course the groove masters Kyuss have to be mentioned, as they inspired me a lot.
Rob: How often do you guys practice, and how does the song writing happen?
Torben: We usually practice a couple of times a week - when were playin shows we tend to cut down a little and when were doin new tunes we try to practice as much as possible. Our song writing is based on a jammin process - I come up with some riffs and the basic idea for the tune and then we all add our different flavors cookin up the Magnified Brew. As we have grown as a band the jammin part of our song writing has become more and more important - and if we do somethin live that we like we incorperate it in the tunes, so some of our songs keep evolving, I like that aspect.
Rob: What are some of the main common musical influences between all the members?
Klaus: Black Sabbath is a great influence to us all, and Kyuss come from the same solar system filled with planets of thick fuzzy grrooves. But all in all were pretty much inspired by the whole Metal/ Rock scene and any music with a nerve powered by Guitars, Bass and Drums!
Rob: What kind of rock scene is happening in your home town?
Torben: We have some really cool venues here like VoxHall and Musik Cafeen where we usually play. These places have all sorts of cool concerts, theyre not really concentrating on a specific scene and that gives a great diversity in our live scene here.
Frode: And then we have some great underground clubs for the not so known bands, with lots of punkers, heavy rockers and so - really great for the upcommin bands - everybody goes there for the cheap beer and a mean guitar.
Rob: How do you think Magnified Eye fits into the whole picture?
Torben: I could say that were tryin not to fit in - creating our own style - but then again that would be somewhat of a lie as we kind of fit the profile of a scandinavian stoner outfit. The main reason that we play music is to give the live audience a super groovin and heavy experience - so I see us fittin into the picture because were out there to give people a good feelin.
And as we as band evolve so does our music, I think that were getting better song writers all the time - understanding where our musical forces and boundaries are.
Rob: What are your upcomming tour plans - U.S.?
How often do you guys gig around? And what are some of your favorite venues?
Anything you want to say to the stonerrock.com community?
Torben: Well we have no immediate plans for touring the U.S. but could be nice going there at some point - though we heard that its more of a shitty job playing gigs over there than here in Europe - so For the moment we stick to the AutoBahn heheh
Actually were flyin to Greenland this August to play a show and thats gonna be really cool.
The gigin` varies a lot some months we have jobs every weekend - and some we have none. Its pretty hard beeing a Rock band in Denmark only so many venues to play - but were doin some shows in Germany and the scene down there is really cool - nice live mentality.
In Aalborg here in Denmark we have a really cool venue called 1000fryd we played there with PawnShop and Bottom and they had bands like High on Fire, Lowrider, Dozer, 7zuma7, GasGiant - so thats a great venue. The venues I mentioned earlier here in our hometown are really cool to.
