Accolades for Space Ritual
I am not quite sure why this is not the holy grail of all stoner rock records. This album boasts the powerful rhythyms of Simon King and Lemmy Kilmister. The vocals by Dave Brock, Rob Calvert, and notably Nik Turner set a new level for spacey recordings. The guitars strobe on like psychedelic war machines. It is an entirely otherworldly affair. A record truly in its own world. This might be the finest record I've ever heard.
The ultimate psychedelic album.
What can I say, this album is hugely representative of Hawkwind in the early days. Psychedelic ramblings driven by a huge bass sound courtesy of the man they call Kilminster aka Lemmy. Spoken word "songs" courtesy of Michael Moorcock, aided and abetted by electronics and guitars. This is my favourite Hawkwind album. It's one that I never tire of in over 15 years of owning (both vinyl and later CD) with an excellent choice of material from albums like Doremi Fasol Latido. They blast through songs like "Brainstorm" (the definitive version!) and "Orgone Accumulator". If you havent heard it yet and are interested in the Hawks, get this album first, if you like the Hawks and don't have it yet, GET IT NOW!
