Accolades for The History of Warfare
When it comes to bona fide foot-soliders of rock'n'roll waging the good fight against musical mediocrity, there are very few bands that can match the sonic firepower of Brisbane outfit, Giants of Science. Here's the proof: 13 raw, gritty-but-huge sounding tracks-and there isn't a dud amongst them - that call to mind Queens of the Stoneage rumbling with a more punked-up AC/DC and Superchunk. Last years ripping Blueprint For Courageous Action EP turned many heads and even garnered them a little airplay. Now, armed with a debut album that rocks even harder, if this doesn't put Giants of Science on the map as, er, giants of Aussie rock'n'roll, then there is no justice!
Do you remember the last time you thought to yourself why the fuck arent [insert band here] trying anymore? Theyve turned into a bunch of pansies with all this soft bullshit? Let me introduce you to your rock n roll saviors Giants Of Science. This 4-piece deliver their 3-4 minute anthems with the volume level set to deafening. Not once on debut album The History Of Warfare do the Giants Of Science even contemplate the meaning of soft, concentrating instead on dueling guitars packed with distortion, a forever-thumping rhythmic section, iced by a vocalist with the rare ability to scream as strong as the wall of sound behind him. If that raises a sweat thinking about it, the damage that your ears will suffer is incomparable. At times the Giants Of Science resemble such acts as Fu Manchu, The Rolling Stones, The Stooges, Television, Kyuss and You Am I, however this music is a brand of rock that is on its own.
