Half Man
The Complete Field Guide For Cynics
At this very moment I am organically entwined within the instrumental interlude
of 'Two Perverted Men In A Swamp (part 1 & 2)', track 7 on Half-Man's CD 'The
Complete Field Guide For Cynics'. This droning departure from the rest of the
CD has sucked me in and locked me into a trance like state. I feel warm and
fuzzy and I feel like I'm suspended in a tank of soothing goo. I am so impressed
in fact that I am compelled to write a review of this CD...
These guys are very talented musicians and this is glaringly obvious throughout
all the varying heavy rock stylings on 'Field Guide' This much raw talent on
their first release was definitely a bit of shock to me, but considering they've
been playing together for 13 years this is quickly brought back into focus...
'Field Guide' is a rich mix of hard rockin' grooves pulled smoothly from many
seemingly different genres. Half-Man does an excellent job of mixing early 70s
style progressive rock, straight up blues, and modern 'psychedelic' rock riffs
into one hell of a heavy groove rock experience. The songwriting is absolute
top notch in every respect and the 'flow' of the album from start to finish
couldn't be more 'right'.
'The Complete Field Guide For Cynics..' will definitely end up one of the few
CDs in my collection that will ever reach an 'excessively listened to' status.
If you like heavy rock of any 'genre' go out and buy this album, you will like
it. Or if you're not completely won over by my ranting you can head on over
to Half-Man's website (URL linked below) which will lead you to some sound clips
that should do the trick.
