The SPIRITUAL BEGGARS (Sweden), started in 1992 when guitarist Michael Amott (ex-Carcass) suddenly felt the urge to get together with some friends in order to jam out some serious grooves. The Beggars are basically a tribute to true roots rock in the best 70's tradition. A decade when music was played for fun, not for capitalistic reasons. Inspired by bands as Captain Beyond, Cactus, Mountain, Frank Marino, Grand Funk, Deep Purple and of course Black Sabbath, the Beggars mixed all those 70's influences with a 90's sound which results in catchy harmonies hammered with extreme heaviness. A hallucinating trip throughout three decades of rock, a musical drug. The first mini album (released on Wrong again records) was a classic piece of retro rock and is already a collectors item. The second release, and first full-CD, "Another way to shine" was released short after the Beggars signed with Music For Nations. Late 1997 the Beggars released their third studio album "Mantra III" and this should be the record that will get the band the exposure and appreciation they deserve. Not only is the album groovy as hell, it is extremely relevant to the present musicscene. The Beggars are one of the forerunners of a bunch of rock bands mixing 60's and 70's influences to 90's heavy, rif-based psychedelica. Monster Magnet's, Dave Wyndorf is a big Spiritual Beggar's fan so that should say enough about the bands capabilities. For the recording of "Mantra III" the beggars used some guest musicians and friends as Per Wiberg on Hamond organ & percussionist Stefan Isebring and both musicians went on tour with the band. During the summer of '98 the band appeared on most big European Rock Festivals (Dynamo Open Air, Graspop Metal Meeting, etc.) and they also did an intensieve European tour as supportact for Fu Manchu. The Spiritual Beggars are : SPICE: Vocals & Bass, MICHAEL AMOTT: Guitar & LUDWIG WITT: Drums. If you ever have the chance to see the Beggars live, don't hesitate and check them out because this is one of the best and most intense livebands in the world, believe me ! Visit the SPIRITUAL BEGGARS UNIVERSAL WORLD for more info on this amazing and very sympathetic band. A new album should be out very soon now and some members of the band are also working on solo projects. |
