Accolades for Tulip
Plain and simple if you have not experienced the 'Tub, this is the perfect starting point. From the opening salvos of "Soul Cannon" through the tribal drumming of "Sister," from the ham radio paean "Pirate 5" to the brimming misanthropy of "Mercurochrome," from the cockeyed hoedown of "Wonders of Dust" to the guitar-driven menace that is "Misty Mt. Blowtorch," Steel Pole Bath Tub deliver their masterpiece with these eleven tunes.
This wonderful CD is jam-packed with truely timeless tunes, making it hard to nail down. For those who have not heard these guys, this CD captures the best of where they were coming from. Bassist and guitarist tag-team the vocals. The bassist runs the tape machine effectively adding to the tunes enjoyment. The guitarist is a madman, putting forth incredible amounts of energy. And the drummer playing with the set low, offers an unrelenting pounding of the skins.
Steel Pole Bath Tub is easily one of the most criminally underappreciated rock bands of all time. Their creativity, originality and diversity of musical styles is akin to that of Melvins. But, where Melvins are often more quantity than quality Steel Pole Bath Tub are all quality all of the time. Highly recommended to fans of heavy psychedelic rock music that pushes the creative limits of heavy psychedelic rock music.
