StonerRock.com Interviews...
An Interview with Michael, Markus and Marco of Zorro...

I happened to meet Zorro from Switzerland when they stayed at my next door neighbor`s house a little while ago...you see, I had a StonerRock.com sticker on my boogie van that they noticed...well one thing led to another and the next thing I know my neighbor is calling me up to come over and meet the out of town cats...turns out they are fans of the site and the stoner rock genre in general and were on their way to Seattle that day to record with Jack Endino...

Interview By: robwrong Date: 11/2/2003 12:40:26 PM

Rob: I sort of met you guys by weird coincidence...I hadn`t heard anything from your band Zorro before I heard First Race when you guys gave me a copy...How did the rest of your trip go? How did the Jack Endino recording sessions turn out?

Michael: After our (last) show in Portland it was an easy drive to Seattle. We drove as fast as we could, to see Jack and the "Soundhouse"-Studios (the studio we recorded at). We are very happy with the production and we are sure that we took a great album with us back home to Europe. (Jack did a great Job!)

Rob: You guys have a fuel charged sound much like Fu Manchu or Nebula...rocking songs. What are some of the bands that you guys listen to, classic and new?

Markus: AC/DC, UNIDA & The (old) LEMONHEADS

Marco: HELLACOPTERS, DANKO JONES & BLACK SABBATH

Michael: KISS, BULLET LAVOLTA & ATOMIC BITCHWAX

Rob: Where are you guys from, and what is some of the background history of the band?

Michael: We are from Basel, Switzerland (it`s a town right at the border to France and Germany). Markus played in LUNAZONE before. He allready recorded an album with Jack Endino with this band. Michael played in HELL MUTE before and already recorded two albums with them. Marco played (you won`t believe it) in a reaggea-band before.

Rob: How often do you guys get over to the states? How did your shows go?

Michael: With ZORRO it was the first time. But we hope to play the states as soon as possible again. We had a lot of fun and the people liked our music. But the conditions are much harder than in Europe. For us it was a great experience - but we are looking forward "to get more"...

Markus: hopefully once as as an opener for UNIDA!

Rob: You said that you guys had heard of StonerRock.com over in Switzerland and that there is a good stoner scene there...what are some of the local bands you guys like and venues and just how popular is the genre over in your part of the world?

Michael: The stonerrock-scene is "small but fine". There are just a few clubs (and promoters) doing stonerrock-shows in Switzerland. - Hirscheneck, Basel - Sedel, Luzern - Gaswerk, Winterthur - Rote Fabrik, Zrich - KiFF, Aarau - L`usine, Geneva

Rob: What are some of your upcoming shows- I assume a record release party at some time...tours?

Michael: At the moment we just play "single-shows" in Switzerland and Germany - until Markus and Marco finished their "final examinations" @ the university (next spring). There will be a record-release-party in our home-town Basel for sure next spring.

Rob: What is on the agenda for the future of Zorro?

Michael: At the moment we are looking for a good record-label we want to work with in the future, and wanna play, play & play "live" whereever we can.

Rob: What are some of the other projects artistically music or otherwise that you guys have going on within the members of the band?

Michael: We put all our "phisycal-power" into ZORRO. No sideprojects, no girlfriends (@ the moment) ... just ZORRO!

Rob: How often do you guys get online? Are any of you guys active members on the message boards of StonerRock.com out of curiousity?

Michael: If possible, we all are online every day. We do also a lot of our "band-comunication" by e-mail. Until now noone of us was active on the message-boards of StonerRock.com, but probably that will change in the near future.

Rob: Where would you go to get more information on Zorro?

Michael: Check our website: http://www.zorrock.net

Rob: Is there anything you would like to share with the community at StonerRock.com?

Michael: Information (positive & negative) about record-labels, promoters, tour-bookers, etc. - if someone will be interested in this stuff.

Rob: Here are the silly questions part of the interview...go ahead and have fun with these! If you weren`t a rocker, what would you most like to be?

Markus: Am I really a rocker? I don`t have any tattoos for example ... but I love to play the guitar and to sing. If not rockmusic, who knows maybe country (?!).

Markus: Rock can never be painful.

Marco: I only go to "pop-shows".

Michael: JESUS LIZARD in Zrich. The singer want to jump (stagediving) outin the audience - but everyone went away. He hit the ground and after 2 minutes they had to stop the show and bring him to a doctor.

Rob: How old were you when you first realize you wanted to rock?

Markus: when my mother gave birth

Marco: when I was 5 years old, I wanted to have a haircut like Elvis Presley

Michael: when i was 7 years old - I get my first SWEET-album

Rob: What`s the most embarrassing job you ever had?

Markus: to sing and play the guitar in ZORRO.

Marco: to play the bass in ZORRO.

Michael: to play the drums in ZORRO.

Rob: What`s your favourite ice cream flavor?

Markus: "Melon"

Marco: "Pistache"

Michael: "Stracciatella"

Rob: If you could date any rock star dead or alive in the world, who would it be? Movie star?

Markus: John Garcia (rock star) / Salma Hajek (movie star)

Marco: Madonna (rock star) / Madonna (movie star)

Michael: Lemmy (rock star) / Sophie Morceau (movie star)

Rob: What would be the ultimate dream gig of all time line-up be, with your band opening? Limit to three bands please (including your own...) and where?

Michael: with KISS in Detroit - with THE HELLACOPTERS in Stockholm - with GUITAR WOLF in Tokyo
