Accolades for
Retroactive Abortion

Retroactive Abortion may be an extremely heavy and aggressive album, but it's also a heck of a lot of fun to listen to. It's the kind of recording where you can clearly hear that the musicians who made it had a great time doing it. There is a loose feeling to the song arrangements allowing each of the guys featured to spread out a bit, even if spreading out in this context means an extended grindcore blast, a bone rattling bass run, or a solo guitar riff churn.

With Buzz Osborne's participation in this Venomous Concept album he goes a long way towards cementing his status as and title of "King" Buzzo. Buzz plays his ass off on this recording. I'm not at all familiar with Poison Idea, the band that allegedly inspired Retroactive Abortion. I am familiar with Buzzo, however and I can honestly say that fans of this guy's work will be completely satisfied with this record. You get to hear Buzz playing at his metallic best with no high concept (despite the name) noodling, or ponderous song arrangements. It's just pure high volume Buzzo at maximum speed. The vocals are probably the least obtrusive hardcore vocals I've heard on any recent recording. Kevin Sharp's voice really does just become another percussive element in the mix. Speaking of percussive, drums and bass do not let up for a split second - there's a lot of blast beats and grindcore style percussion at work here.
