Accolades for Mother Teacher Destroyer
This one is a highly recommended classic!! It beats Divine Propaganda by far and is certainly one of Winos best albums ever!!! This is much more than I expected! For me the two songs from the Wooly Mammoth/Hidden Hand split EP were a big step towards perfection but this one is absolutely outstanding!! Brilliant musicianship despite the members having rather different influences! Check out Daves unbelievable powerful drumming and the heavy bass-lines and the vocals of Bruce. This is the best the doom-rock scene can offer!!
Mother Teacher Destroyer is like one mad ride through lunatic rhythms and fierce riffs. Everyone in this band is a plain madman and the three of them complete each other's work just perfectly.
The album is a combination of heavy doom and psychedelic vocal harmonies that sometimes seem to reach back to the '60s for inspiration with progressive elements that bring English groups like King Crimson, Pink Floyd, and Jethro Tull to mind. And let's not forget the presence of that all important '60s-'70s hard rock underground vibe from the likes of Blue Cheer and Grand Funk Railroad. The lyrics are socially critical and allegorical. The playing is fluid yet as tight as Dave's snare head. As usual when Wino's involved, there's a heavy emphasis on melody. This is a band of equals that is hitting its stride.
