Accolades for Metamorphogenesis
The album contains three incredibly long pieces that hardly qualify as songs for each one contains its fair share of noise and dark psychedelic passages, its own paranoid journey. The chaotic textures and spidery rhythm delving deep into the listeners mind, drowning the emptiness in layers of aural dissonance. The music is so effectively psychedelic that people I know have actually reported hallucinations (without the aid of hallucinogenic drugs) while listening to the album, and not pleasant ones mind you. Metamorphogenesis was obviously crafted with a very small minority of people in mind, that incredibly small part of the general population that actually enjoys ugly, dissonant and horrific soundscapes. I can only recommend this album to them in good conscience. I wouldnt wish this album on anyone else.
These guys should provide soundtracks to fucked up horror films the way Goblin did with Suspiria, Dawn of the Dead, and Tenebre back in the '70s.
What these guys do to their heads to make such a stupendously overwhelming racket is beyond me. If they're using weird drugs, I definitely don't want any. It's like the sonic equivalent of Douglas Adams' Total Perspective Vortex; never before have I received such a sense of my own insignificance from listening to music. The first time I listened to this album was on my Walkman on a bus. Although this obviously isn't the optimum environment for listening to such music, I didn't realise until I arrived at my destination that I'd been sitting staring straight ahead, gripping the seat in front so hard my knuckles had gone white. And I knew that every single other person on that bus was an irrelevant burp of protoplasm, a fleck of grime in a boundless spinning vortex of black eternity. Esoteric are far and away one of the most powerful and extreme bands I've ever come across; it's been a long time since I heard a band that so profoundly affected my way of thinking.
