Brooklyn, NY heavy psych rock trio NAAM has just released its debut album. The fast-rising buzz band’s self-titled debut Naam is in stores now via Tee Pee Records.
Today, NAAM premieres its debut music video - for the red hot track “Skyling Slip” – via Stereogum. Filmed on location in Brooklyn with director Rachelle Rahme, the clip tailgates the band “day in the life” style as they “prepare” for an evening gig. Check out the unruly video now at this location.
NAAM’s high-voltage power and addictive sonance has found favor with both metalheads and psychedelic rock fans alike, all of whom have talked up the group’s thundering musical muscle. The follow up to the group’s three-song mega-EP Kingdom, Naam was recorded on an abandoned dairy farm in New York`s Catskill Mountains and delivers pitch-dark, utterly hypnotic songs that resurrect the concept of space-rock for a new era. NAAM’s raw, feedback-powered sound pools densely distorted riff-o-rama with throbbing bass lines and echoey, buzzy vocals that seem to hang in the open spaces in between. The album has met to first-rate acclaim, being championed as “a tightrope walk between hyper-distorted stoner metal bustle and Brooklyn`s long-standing psych-rock hedgerow” by the Village Voice while Decibel proclaimed that the record “brings us back to the grand old days of when metal was invariably preceded by `heavy` and boogied as well as shredded.”
NAAM will perform live at Brooklyn Bowl on January 30 and is also expected to announce its participation as part of the 2010 SXSW Festival imminently.
In additional NAAM news, the band has been nominated as “Best Emerging Artist” by NYC’s The Deli magazine. NAAM joins a hot list of artists in the running for the award that also includes CYMBALS EAT GUITARS, DIRTY PROJECTORS, and more.
