Taint – All Bees To The Sea (EP)

Release date: Oct/Nov 2009

Taint has returned with a brand new EP exclusively on vinyl (the CD version will be out in the coming months.) The four song release continues on from where their 2007 masterpiece Secrets And Lies left off. Crushing riffs with a touch of prog accommodating great songwriting. Taint’s sound is somewhere between Baroness and Kylesa with a Keelhaul slant to it. The vocals sound better then ever and the music simply crushes.

“Black Rain” starts the record off right with a cool opening riff soaring into a good chorus. The end part has a progressive metal type of feel to it. “Despite Isolation” is next with a doomy beginning leading into an upbeat verse that flows perfectly throughout each section of the song. They break into a swinging rock riff that builds into a heavy beat down. The third track entitled “Prey The Wind Don’t Change” demolishes throughout. The aggressive vocals with the angular guitar parts gel together quite nicely. The song has a good chorus to boot with decent singing. This tune has the perfect balance of metal, prog, and rock. Then finally “All Bees To The Sea” kicks in, the twelve and a half minute anthem. What a great song to close the record! I hear some old s t y l e Helmet riffing with King Crimson and Iron Maiden flourishes as well. The guitar leads are awesome and the song shifts into a devastating closing. The record also comes with a download card for these songs and a live performance from Roadburn 2008.

Taint has been consistent since their 2006 debut The Ruin Of Nova Roma. They are becoming one of my favorite bands. They blend so many musical s t y l es that it becomes difficult to categorize. All Bees To The Sea is definitely worth checking out and it will be at the top of my year end list for sure. Highly recommended!

"Black Rain" is what you'd expect, but a nice progression. and you're right, the vocals are finally getting closer to the musicianship. I'll more than likely pick this up, 'Secrets & Lies' is top notch

Just gave this a listen and it is pretty damn good, think these guys would benefit from a different band name though

This album fucking rules. I wish more people would get into them, and that they eventually decide on doing a U.S.A. tour.
