Eggnogg - Eggnogg Review by Tim Emswiler (StonerRock.com) Self Released Release date: 2009
This band is the real deal, and this album is the fucking goods, folks.
Now, I had to start my review that way, because my original first sentence was going to be “I really had pretty damn low expectations from a band named Eggnog,” but I didn’t want to put people off. Because, truth be told, I have listened to this every day since it was sent my way.
Okay, let me take a stab at the music here. If you’re on this here website for any reason other than the fact that you can’t spell worth a damn, you’ll find something to dig here. Doom-ish, but with enough tempo to keep you from drifting off into your own headspace, and the louder you play it, the better you’ll feel. The singer at times brings to mind Rob Zombie, and at other times that guy that sings for Bronx Casket Company, but never sounds just like anyone else I can think of. The songs are well-crafted, avoiding the boredom that occasionally besets the doomier side of this beloved corner of the rock field. I hear a little Cathedral here, a little (insert your favorite Wino band) there, and if you don’t hear the Sabbath influence, I pity you. But having said that, Eggnog is truly its own thing.
But the major props have to go to the lead guitar work. Okay, maybe there's a little Iommi touch, but not obtrusively so. The solos are (gasp) actually unique – instead of going for the notes-per-second record, he (or she) goes for playing the right note every second. Some of the lead work is tightly synched with the damn fine rhythm section, a really nice touch.
Lesson learned – don’t judge a band or an album by name only. This is the kind of music that brought me to StonerRock.com in the first place.
(I had no luck finding a trace of these people on the web – if you have better luck, please post it!)

You're probably having trouble finding them because the name is spelled wrong. It's spelled with two G's at the end (Eggnogg)
Yeah these guy's fuckin' rock though. The album is like a perfect balance of doom and plain ol' hard rock.
I'd say your best bet on contacting them for the album is on their myspace.

Might be a torrent up somewhere too

Listened repeatedly to "The Sloth" and "God's Will (Destroy the Hive)" which still are my favourite 2 tracks. The first song, as I commented in a video posted on youtube, really reminded me of Smashing Pumpkins' "Pastichio Medley" (that was a sort of riffs-box of the band, from the Zero single cd). The second one has what I felt from many bands of the stoner scene: something that I call "pseudo-divination". The riff, the structure of the song, the melody and the final "descendo" of the song is something wonderful, absolutely magnific, a great experience for the ears and mind and a well studied form of experimentation, in my honest opinion. Still have to listen to the other songs more intensely but the overall feeling is +, good and really ispiring. Also props to the graphic side by Justin Karol, just simple and efficient ( I just couldn't resist to print the cover and put it on my room's wall, that horned bull is my new idol now.... oh I know I know "Idols, Gold, will fall" :P). The lyrics are simple and great too, in my honest opinion and look open to free interpretation. About the band's name... I don't know its meaning so I can't judge. Sounds good though, very curious. Really good work again, worth a buy.
Sincerely yours, hail, au revoir, goodbye, ciao! -mulambo666
(sorry for my broken english, I'm from Italy :P )

It's not a question of whether they're in the store or not. It's more that it's kinda crass to be posting torrents (unless someone from the band okays it). Which is why I removed the link. Cheers.

"The Gods Will Destroy The Hive", is a great song. Totally heavy water groove doom. Big boot stompdown. Wow. Myspace says they're from upstate NY, dunno if thats straight up Albany way or Western. Somebody here has had to see'm if they've played out. If they're West they can get to Cleveland easy- if North, Bostons not that far. Jesus this def. coulda been on Meteor City or even Rise Above.
The label is based in a store/art gallery in CLINTON, NY. Its where Hamilton College is. Very close to Utica and Rome, I lived there for a year when i was 10. Very beautiful area. They could get to Boston easy.

What's so terrible about it? Eggnog (the drink) is thick and heavy, it fits. It's just different because it doesn't have any stoner/occult references. Not every band like this has to be called "1000 POUND OVERLORD OF BONG SMOKE."
