Threefold Law - Killer of the Sultan
Review by John Pegoraro (StonerRock.com)
Self Released
Release date: 2009

I'm not sure if Cleveland's Threefold Law is doom, 80's metal, or a little bit of both, but for the most part, I like what I hear. On title track "Killer of the Sultan," the first of two songs, the vocal line locks in with the gloomy riffs, giving it a bit of sing-song like melody. The band might take it the wrong way, but it sounds like what you'd get if members of Dokken and Trouble formed a supergroup. Honestly, I mean it as a compliment. “Hell Lander” doesn't fare quite as well – something just doesn't click when the vocals kick in – but musically it's pretty solid, with a couple of moments that reminded me of Down's first album. Two songs don't paint much of a picture – especially when the production's so obviously demo-quality – but there's enough here to make me willing to give them a listen when their full-length rolls around.
