Space Probe Taurus – Self Titled
Review by John Pegoraro (StonerRock.com)

Release date: July 4, 2008
Searching through the review archives, it seems that Sweden's Space Probe Taurus has been kicking around as long as this site's been running. While this self-titled album is their first full-length (their
Insect City 7” was released in – get this – 2001), not much has changed since they first stumbled onto the scene with their first demo.
In fact, two of those early songs, “Dig the Lizard” and “Psi-Burn,” show up on
Space Probe Taurus, and that says a lot about the band's dogmatic approach to music. It doesn't matter if it's 2001 or 2008, Space Probe Taurus is still going to let loose with some Monster Magnet-influenced psychedelic garage rock. There's a punchy, cocky attitude to songs like “Buzz Amp,” “Electric Explosion,” “Snakebirth,” and “Levitation” that brings to mind “Medicine,” “Twin Earth,” “I Control, I Fly,” and “Tractor.” The band may lack Dave Wyndorf's lyrically flair, but musically they do an admirable job of following in the Jersey band's footsteps.
A couple of years back, this might've made Space Probe Taurus just another one of those third or fourth tier stoner rock groups, but given how woeful
4-Way Diablo was, I'd say the timing behind this release was well done. It's seriously good stuff.
