Beehoover - A Mirror Is a Window’s End
Review by Tim Emswiler (StonerRock.com)
Beardhead Records
Release date: 2005

“Holy shit.” That was my first reaction.

This is my new favorite album. But it may be a bit too soon to review it, because I haven’t yet figured out how they did this. With nothing but bass and drums and vocals, with a guest appearance by a violin, Beehoover manage to be heavier than hell, yet at the same time they are melodic, even catchy at times, with some truly dense song structures that are still accessible to the average ear. Male gang vocals backed by a gorgeous female singer and an almost choir-like sound way back in the mix makes “To Kill a Hill and Move a Mountain” a standout track. You only get three tracks here, but when they clock in at 10:21, 8:27, and 11:02, it feels like more than an EP. I have no idea where this band is from, but with member names like Ingmar and Claus-Peter, I reckon they ain’t from around these parts. But they sing in English, and lyrics are included. This, in my opinion, is a work of genius.
