Entombed & Roachpowder
Musikens Hus in Gothenburg, Sweden
November 2nd, 2001
This was enough to spark my interest in checking `em out. And the fact that Entombed were the main attraction didn’t make this gig any less interesting. Even though I’m a Swede I had not seen Entombed live `til this gig (there’s always been something that have made it impossible for me to go to the gig whenever they’d played here in Gothenburg). But, there’s always been great word of mouth concerning their live performances...
When me, my lil’ brother and a buddy of his was walking up the stairs to "Musikens Hus" I saw a poster advertising this gig... and whaddya know Blackshine wasn’t on the bill any more... and what band name do I see instead of Blackshine... Roachpowder! Shit, yeah! I’ve been wanting to get a chance to see these guys tear up a stage for a long time now. I had planned to see `em at the Dist festival 5 months ago (with a shitload of other great genre bands), but then that festival got cancelled.
The first band out on stage was called Arise, but I didn’t pay `em much attention... good musicians, boring music...
Then it was time for Roachpowder to hit the stage... They have released two great fullength albums to date, but the way they combine psychedelia and heavy rock is definitely taken to an even higher level when played live. Most of the audience was made up of guys in their late teens / early twenties all dressed in black and most of `em looked kinda dumbstrucked when Roachpowder started rockin’. After a while it seemed like more and more of `em got in to the groove of it all. But there was also a bunch of folks that usually attend the "stoner" gigs in the audience... and they didn’t look the least bit surprised when Roachpowder got their druginduced groove going...

Roachpowder did a kickass set that mostly consisted of songs from their latest album "Atomic Church". Roachpowder’s stage performance was on par with most of the good "stoner" bands from Sweden. You know, not to much of moving around on stage, that is `cept for the guy on organ and theremin... the dude was dancing around that theremin like a mad man, and since most of the audience probably had never seen a theremin they must have wondered what he was doing, hehe. At one point he got so wild that he managed to tip over a glass filled with beer... guess where the beer ended up? All over my camera bag, but it dried out after a couple of days and none of the cameras was damaged. All in all... I can’t wait to see these guys live again, they put on quite a show...
After the break it was time for Entombed to hit the stage, and judging from what everyone else was saying they did one of their best performances in Gothenburg in a very long time.

I didn’t have anything to compare with myself, but this gig was awesome... Entombed are a brutal live band. And the harder they rocked the wilder the audience got... needless to say, it wasn’t easy photographing their set (I had to lift the camera over my head a couple of times and just squeeze it off and hope for the best). Most of the songs were from their latest two albums, but they also included songs from earlier on in their career. Great gig from an amazing live band...
